Twenty-Thirteen

Is it just me or are the years going by faster and faster? I know I know, its just because I'm getting old and so time goes by quicker because a year is a smaller portion of my lifespan... blah blah blah.

The point is, its time for the YEAR REVIEW!!!

Lists of memories from this year:
BIG Things:
Angel and Mike tying the knot!
Newest nephew & Nevin-ite born - Koen Hale Nevin!
Parker baptized at age 8!

Trips:
Portland - for Ari's very special Wildwood birthday party!!!
Texas - just because I miss all my dear friends and family who live far away & I had to meet all their new babies I already love and adore!
California - where we rocked six flags and sunburns (okay it was just Julie on the sun burn thing)
Cedar City - Utah Shakespeare Festival for my first time! We saw 12 Angry Men and Peter & the Starcatcher. Both were amazing.

Shows worked on:
Rapunzel - first time I was back ON stage, probably since High School, for reals.
Harlem Shake - does this count as a show? haha In case you missed it:

The Box - a wonderful new piece by Christian Swenson, that I was dramaturg for (kinda.)
Hello Dolly - SM for the Jerry Elison
The Scarlet Pimpernel - SCERA Shell Summer show, again alongside Mr. E!
The Jerry Elison Scholarship Night - I was the emcee - which was scary. But I'd do anything for that man!
A Christmas Carol - 3rd year! It gets better every time! And of course, with Jerry!

Other Shining Moments:
Our beautiful new juicer!!
Being Cinderella for a day in the 4th of July parade!
Seeing Wicked for my 25th birthday
#uglypicturefacecontest
Andrew finished wheel of time series - an end of an era
Hiking up around Strawberry Lake & seeing wild beavers only a few feet in front of us
Attending the Beautiful Singing vocal camp at BYU with my Mommy!
Lincoln riding on 2 wheels
Halloween - biker duo
Anvil, thermos, axe collection grew and grew
Little camping trip
Witches Tea Convention
Andrew's axe from the Ukraine
And of course just stopping at every estate sale and antique shop we can! seriously.

Not-so shining moments:
Spraining my ankle jumping in puddles
Scout's eye infection and having to wear the miserable cone
My awful sunburn from Cali
Cracking my iPhone
My fantasy football team
.....wait why are these mostly about me?
Wasting too much time of our lives watching the Netflix original series Hemlock Grove.

Memorable Movies of 2013 (in no particular order):
Catching Fire, Ender's Game, Gravity, Monster University, Iron man 3, Life of Pi, Bridesmaids, Warm Bodies, OZ: Great and Powerful, The Great Gatsby, Silver Linings Playbook, Django, Les Mis
Burt Wonderstone, Saving Mr. Banks, Bernie, and The host.... just kidding about the last one. :)

Firsts that happened this year:
Pyrex! And so began my obsession.
Dirty Dr. Pepper (at Swig)
Men in Black
Acting performance on Utah stage
Bachelor and Bachelorette viewing
Andrew's Handmade knife
Utah Shakespeare Festival

What I wish I could say we did this year.... and is *maybe* going on our goal list for 2014:
Buy a house
Start my online vintage shop
See a Broadway show in NYC
Take lots of pictures on our amazing camera. (I mean I took some this year, just not enough!)
Camping camping camping (again we did go, just not as much as we'd like to have)
More swimming and hot tubbing!!!! (notice the amount of exclamation points - this is serious)
Grow a garden

More of 2014 goals to come. But for now....
here's a little photo flip review of twenty-thirteen!

Goodness it has been a long while.
I'm hoping to eventually catch up and start this whole blog thing again!

But for now, I'm just going to share a quote. I heard this quote for the first time yesterday, and I cannot stop thinking about it.

“There is no difficulty that enough love will not conquer: no disease that love will not heal: no door that enough love will not open...It makes no difference how deep set the trouble: how hopeless the outlook: how muddled the tangle: how great the mistake. A sufficient realization of love will dissolve it all. If only you could love enough you would be the happiest and most powerful being in the world..."

― Emmet Fox

The love he talks about is not limited to our own human love, but also by the love from our Heavenly Father. The love from our Savior. The love that abounds from the atonement. Because that love, specifically, is the love that will conquer & heal all things. Although, even among each other, it is always about love. Love is what brings us peace and joy.

That's all.

Happy Day!

Hello, you!

In celebration of Valentine's Day, our Anniversary, my Birthday & Christmas,
Andrew bought me a beautiful Nikon D5100 DSLR camera!

It is the most lovely camera I've ever seen!

I cannot wait to take some photography classes.
I am still very much an amateur, but I'm excited to learn much more!

I suppose it is all my mom's "fault" for my constant picture taking. She was always the embarrassing mom who had to take multiple pictures at the birthday parties, recitals, plays, etc.
And I am now, of course, grateful for every single picture!

*It looks pretty great in my hands, if I do say so myself!*

Little Liam

On January 11th Paul & Kelsi welcomed sweet little

Liam Bennett Nevin

7 lb 14 oz & 22 inches long!

He's so precious, and pretty sweet snuggle bug. We love him lots!

And as Laura says "Heaven is a little Nevin!"

Ben's Wedding

Andrew and I took some time off work and flew down to Odessa for my friend's wedding.

It was a beautiful ceremony.
Ben and JoVanna are very cute together and I wish them best!

This was Ben's groom's cake. Pretty sweet, right?!

And of course we had fun at the photo booth!

I can't believe that red-headed benny-bear is married! :)

Oh, yeah

 I got new glasses!

Happy 2 years to us!

I cannot believe that we are already celebrating our 2nd year of marriage! It seems to have gone by so fast. These two years have been most fantastic and I can't wait to see what the next years bring!

To celebrate we spent the evening in Salt lake. We ate at Ruth's Chris, which was super delicious! We saw Dirty Rotten Scoundrels at the Hale in West Valley, and stayed the night in Hotel Monaco. The next morning we went estate sale shopping and scored some really great stuff.
To sum it up: perfect.

I don't want to get all sappy on here or anything, but Andrew is wonderfully supportive and the funniest person I know. He is the best company I keep.

Wausaukee, part one

In celebration for my parents 40th wedding anniversary, we decided to all get together at Randy & Elly's family cabin in Wausaukee, Wisconsin. Daddy helped arrange the whole thing, but we wanted to surprise Mommy with the reunion!
We have been planning this trip for over a year now, and holding in this huge secret from Mommy was huge! I was so scared I would ruin the surprise to her, I even dreamed about it!
But we did it!
She was completely surprised - success!
We spent the week relaxing on the edge of Elbow Lake with all the siblings & Randy, Elly, David & Elana! The 1920's cabin had so much character and charm, I think I could live there.
There was swimming, fly fishing, canoeing, sailing, porch-sitting, storytelling, and lots of ice cream!

I do not have the pictures from the trip yet (hence this is "Part one") but I will share just a few that I have.

more to come...

On March 16, 2011
Andrew & I were sealed in the Draper Temple
Everything was so beautiful and perfect.

*It was super windy/rainy/snowy so this was the only picture we got at the Temple. Don't judge.*

Then we celebrated with our family & friends!

My new journal

For this new year and years to come, I have made myself my own sort of perpetual journal. I found the idea from  Ashley Ann Photography  through Design Sponge (which you should check out, because they are fabulous blogs!).
The idea of this journal is to write down one thing you did/felt/experienced each day. After the first year, you will be able to look back at each day over the growing years.

Totally cute, right?
Well it is only day 3 of the new year, so if you want one too, it won't take long to catch up!

2010 in a glance

So Christmas has already come and gone! And so has 2010!

It was such good year, 2010. We have had so many wonderful experiences and so much to be grateful for.
Here is a little month-by-month sum up of our last year.

In January:
*We fell in love with Glee!
*Andrew grew a mustache .
*Julie took a tap dance class: which she has always wanted to do!

In February:
*We wrote some slam poetry together.
*Andrew attempted his hand at woodworking. Someday he will build me a cabin in the woods.
*Julie fell in love with stage management!

In March:
*We hardly saw one another, between work, school, and theater! This was a busy time!
*Andrew turned 25!!
*Julie worked on two shows at BYU as Assistant Stage Manager for As You Like It, and Dramaturg for Blood Wedding.

In April:
*We became completely and totally obsessed with LOST and could not stop until we finished the Series finale!
*Andrew won a laptop at work for his high sale volume!
*Julie Graduated from BYU with a BA in Theatre Arts.

In May:
*We enjoyed rock climbing with Ryan & Kristen in the warm Utah summer weather.
*Andrew escorted Julie and Jared to PMI's Lagoon Day with Jared, and faced the scarest/wild/super-fun rollercoaster, Wicked!
*Julie Asst. Stage Managed Funny Girl at the SCERA.

In June:
*We took advantage of living in Utah, and spent many days outdoors, exploring, hiking, playing, etc.
*Andrew took up Tennis, and tried (so patiently) to teach Julie.
*Julie almost sat on a snake.

In July:
*We Celebrated our First Anniversary!
*Andrew was still obsessed with tennis, and all things outdoors.
*Julie Stage Managed Annie Get Your Gun at the SCERA, which also traveled to BYU's Education Week for a short run.

In August:
*We went hiking & camping as much as our schedules would permit! And we moved out of our first place, and into a newer/smaller place.
*Andrew's fascination/intrigue/love in axes grew tremendously!
*Julie turned 22!! And she saw She & Him in concert with Kristen!

In September:
*We went camping again! (although, September nights are a little too chilly for comfort.)
*Andrew took up fishing. Fresh trout is oh, so yummy!
*Julie went to Odessa for Marcy's wedding, and met up with old friends, and her family!

In October:
*We cheered on the Cougars & celebrated the first snow of the season!
*Andrew quit work at PMI, and went back to working for Frontier Drilling in Moab.
*Julie transformed into a witch (for one night only).

In November:
*We celebrated Thanksgiving on the 24th with a small feast for two.
*Andrew was promoted to a Derrik-hand and switched crews, which enabled him to be home for Christmas!
*Julie was hired part time at the Hale Center Theater in their box office and also as a House Manager.

In December:
*We moved, yet again! It is very cute & wonderful. We celebrated Christmas this year in Utah, so it was the  25th with the Nevins, and the 26th with the Bonifays!
*Andrew showed Julie around the fine city of Moab, and began fixing up his awesome Bronco.
*Julie stage managed A Christmas Carol at the Hale Center Theater

Monday, October 11, 2010

Oh yeah....

On July 25th, Andrew & I celebrated our one year anniversary.

I cannot believe how fast time is flying! It has been such a wonderful year.
I love Andrew so much & couldn't be happier!

{montage of eating our frozen cake & trying to get a decent picture}

Here's to many many more years of happiness together!

*I have started writing a personal essay of sorts on all the things I have learned in this first year of marriage. I'm still thinking about whether or not I will just keep it for myself or share it with others.*

Texas!

Just a few things I did while visiting Texas:
1. Ate a LOT of Mexican food! (it was much needed)

2. Visited friends at their work places

3. Stayed up late talking with friends about not life, love, religion, and texting while driving.
(more on that some other time.)

4. Went to the Young Women's dessert auction at church!
5. Worked out at Curves with my Mommy!

6. Learned more about my late Granny & Papa, and more about my family's genealogy, in general, from my Daddy.

7. Lived with Holly in her cute grown-up apartment!

8. Went Frisbee Golfing with Holly's friend, Logan while she was at work.

9. Hot-tubbed & learned that cold hands are a result of stress, and the need for relaxation. Thank you, Holly.

10. Ate the best cupcake in the nation (according to Ellen Degeneres, whom I fully trust) at Society Bakery.

11. Went to school with my aunt. She teaches theater at an Arts Magnet High School in Dallas, Texas, so I got to sit in on her beginning playwrighting class!

12. Visited with Randy, Elly, David & Elana. We should really see them more often...

13. Watched a sailboat race (kinda)

14. Hugged & spent not nearly enough time with most all of my best friends!

 {Andrea, Travis, and me}
{Candace!}
 {Nikki & Matt}

 {Holly!}

*and there were many more friends visited that are not pictured.
this trip was a lame picture-taking trip for me.*

Marcy & Derrick Bush!

I went home a couple weeks ago for my friend, Marcy's wedding! She was absolutely gorgeous and so was the wedding. I've known Marcy since high school and she is such a beautiful, talented, funny, and awesome person! I'm so glad I was able to be there for the most important day of her life.
I'm just so happy for her and wish her & Derrick lots of love!

{husband & wife}

{Marcy & me}

{I got to spend the night with 7 of my most favorite girls}

Visit Courtney Ryburn's photography blog to see the awesome professional shots!

Bridal Veil

On Andrew's last day of work at PMI (wahoo!) we spent time up the canyon.
We "hiked" up to Bridal Veil Falls!

Gone Camping

Camping Aug 2010 from julie nevin on Vimeo.

The whole trip I was wishing I had a better, nicer camera, so I could take prettier pictures!
I got to see & have lunch with this wonderful lady a couple weeks ago! Her family was spending the week up at Aspen Grove, so I stole her away for a few short hours.

I'm so excited to go home for Marcy's wedding at the end of this month! Not only will I be home for the wedding but I will get to see all my lovely friends who live far too far away....
